Love you, Dad

Standard

by Bernadette A. Sahm

On a day that I wasn’t feeling particularly well, I found a note. A note given to me more than fifteen years ago, and one that I read for the very first time today. It read, “love you, Dad.” And of course, the tears started streaming down my cheeks.

I was moving some art around when the picture detached from the frame revealing the back of the painting my father had painted. He gifted it to me just before his passing and for all those years in hung in my home. Never did I know there was such a sweet and loving message from my dad. And there it was today on a day that I needed to read it.

It was one of his acrylic paintings, and I didn’t know it was called, “D.K. The Girl in The Other Room” and signed by him with his full signature. It was dated March 2005. What a gift it was then and what a gift it is again today.

All I can say is “Love you, Dad!” Happy and proud to be a “Daddy’s Girl.”
