Proud American

Standard

Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

I consider myself to be very patriotic as I am a proud American. I love our country! We are not perfect but we are good.

My father served in the Army and my first husband served two terms in the Navy. When I think of all the sacrifices they made to serve this country, I can’t help but be proud.

We are the land of opportunity and I believe the “American Dream” is alive for those willing to work hard for it.

Some of my favorite charities to support are Tunnel to Towers and American Veterans.

I like the flag, the red, white and blue and all that it stands for, we proudly hang an American flag outside our home.

At the time of this writing I am enjoying watching the USA compete in the Winter Olympics.

We are fond of the classic Americans clothing designs by Ralph Lauren Polo. It’s both classic and timeless.

Do I enjoy the current political divide in our country? No! And I do my best to tune most of it out.

Again our country isn’t perfect, but it is good, and I am both a proud patriot and proud American.

Winter Break

Standard

Do you need a break? From what?

This winter here in Rehoboth Beach has been brutal! Today the freezing temps have a “real feel” of negative 14 degrees. It’s cold and it’s windy outside.

We have experienced a few snow storms and extreme cold weather already this year, and it’s only the first week of February.

Realistically we could be in for 6,8 or 10 or more weeks of winter weather before spring like temperatures.

I try not to complain but rather to embrace it, in 6 months people will be complying about the heat. And so it goes …

But right now, and today, I really feel that I could use a break from old man winter and his crazy cold temperatures!

Life Events

Standard

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

Life events transform and influence our lives on a daily basis. Each experience forms us!

Being widowed at age 23 was a major life event that influenced my life and my outlook on life. It taught me how quickly life can change and that life is for the living, live it!

Family abuse and estrangement was also a key factor and significant life event that changed me and formed me. In a way I lost my trust and my innocence in relating to others, primarily family members. I learned not to trust them and to live my life without them.

I learned about real and enduring love from my husband of 34 years. Our marriage and our union transformed me into believing in the goodness of him and in the healing properties of true love.

Aging and life experiences influence your perspective on life. The more life we experience the more wisdom and growth we acquire. Older is wiser. Time also allows for better perspective on life.

Sometimes when we are so close to a life event or so new to a life event, we don’t have the best perspective until we have some distance and some hindsight.

We live and we learn …
